Education

I am French, from Paris. I am currently a graduate student at Mississippi State University and a teacher assistant for the French department. I am pursuing a master in Modern Languages with a concentration in Education to have a complete background to start my career as a teacher. After one year as the Program Assistant of the French house and the French conversation partner at the University of Valparaiso, Indiana, I have decided to continue my studies to obtain a master degree. After my degree, I wanted to gain some practical experiences abroad in order to live something new and beneficial for my personal and professional development.

Experience

I am currently teaching two French labs at Mississippi State University. The first one is FLF 1123, French II, and is composed of freshmen, sophomores and juniors. We meet once a week during 50 minutes to work on what they have done during the week and go further. I have 26 students in this class. The other one is FLF 3114, Advanced French composition, and is composed of juniors and seniors. We also meet once a week during 50 minutes to work mostly on the grammar. I have 6 office hours during the week to help my students whenever they need me and also tutor others students during my free time. I was working as a conversation partner at the Valparaiso University. I was meeting with students from 18 to 20 years of age, 8 hours per week, in small groups to make it easier for them to develop their oral skills. My role as a conversation partner was first to make them feel comfortable and in a safe environment to encourage the exchange and facilitate the conversation. My goal was to help my students build confidence in expressing their own thoughts in French, explain them contents they may have not understood in class. Before each French exams, I used to offer a night of my week to help them review the content and answer any questions they may have had. Seeing them succeeding during the exam was rewarding as I knew my participation was helpful. Being a teaching assistant is gratifying for me because I bring something to my students in terms of knowledge and culture within my classroom. I have an excellent interaction with them and it brings a lot to me on a professional and personal level. This is a great experience to live and a real benefit for my professional career as it allows me to build my teaching skills while studying.
